Article 140 of the Constitution stipulates that the President of the Republic shall be elected for a period of six years from the date of expiration of his predecessor’s term and shall not be re-elected for more than two terms.
The parliamentarians also approved a supplementary clause on the content of the “transition period”. Article 241 states: “The term of the current president will expire six years after he was elected president of the Republic in 2018. He can be re-elected.”
